We might study and practice and obsess about the day that we minister for the Lord and because He is faithful we will do just fine in that ministry. But who wants to do just fine? If we speak to anyone who has had extreme soul winning ministry they will tell us that the turning point of their experience was when they learned how to invite the Holy Spirit into the midst of that work. Who is the Holy Spirit? He is the third person of the Holy Trinity (The Father, the Son and The Holy Spirit). After Jesus was crucified and resurrected and came to the disciples He said that He would go to be with His Father but He would leave His Holy Spirit to be our Comforter. The Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost) has one job and that is to lead any who ask to Christ. He brings the revelation of the word to our lives.

Any talented person can perform for the crowd and bring down the house, but when all is said and done who does the audience or congregation take home with them? Us or the Lord? This is where the secret to success lies. It does not matter what Christian denomination we are, if our ministries are small or large or if we have financial support or not. God is no respecter of persons and neither is His Spirit. His Spirit is the extension of His love. So doesn’t it make perfect sense that to be successful soul winners in ministry we must let the Holy Spirit work within our work? How do we get the Holy Spirit to visit our services or events? One word…ASK!

Provide an atmosphere of praise and worship unto the Lord, ask the Holy Spirit to come and he will come. The Lord inhabits the praises of His people. All we have to do is wait for him to move. It has been witnessed that a person with the least talent can bring people to their knees in tears with a warbled song when the Holy Spirit is in it. When the drawing is there it is what brings fire to a cold gathering. It is up to us to learn how to wait upon the Lord through His spirit and allow Him to work. We are but instruments in His plan. If we want the most out of our potential, we must take on a partner…The Holy Spirit. We will have the greatest testaments to our ministries through the souls that are touched through them. Isn’t that why we do what we do? Let the Holy Spirit call the shots!

Are you asking the question each time you visit this web site ” If I can’t mime, Lord, what do I do?” You may not yet be aware of any specific talent that God has given you for Him to develop into a ministry. I promise that God, in fact, has given you abilities that He can use because He created you. God does not command His children to do His work and not give them the tools in which to do it.

NOT EVERYONE CAN MIME! I have learned that true mime is in your very being just as singing or preaching or being a missionary. Routines are learned but mime flows from the spirit. Although this site is dedicated to the ministry of mime it does not ever tell everyone that they are mimer’s. I personally believe that you should try it just to feel the freedom it allows, but just because you use motion in your personal worship does not mean you are to pack your bags and head on out for the ‘Mime Big Time’. Just relax!

Ministry is what God creates out of what He gives you at any given time. You are a multi-faceted minister controlled only by the will of God on a minute to minute basis. Some are called to pastor churches. Your church might be the street corner that you pass to go to lunch everyday. Your mission field is wherever God sends you. Where does God send you? He sends willing hearts to where there is a need. He uses the personality He gave you along with your talents to use you where you can be most effective.

I used to think that I was failing God because I was not settled into a full time ministry. But the Lord showed me as I got older that He did not create me to be in a box. He created me to be artistic and creative and be open to new ways to work for Him. He gave me a heart to exhort others and that takes a confident and flexible personality. You cannot lift others up if you do not let God lift you up first. The most blessed ministries are those who share what they have. I do not necessarily mean money but rather God given gifts. If we have a common goal to spread the gospel then we should be encouraging one another to use what God has given each individual to get the job done.

So you ask how you can do that?

There is a story that comes to my mind about a man who felt he had no talent to give God so he offered to clean the church bathrooms every week. As he did the job no one else wanted to do he became happier in his spirit and full of joy. He would sing loudly as he worked though he could not carry a tune. When people would visit the pastor they would ask what that singing was. When the pastor explained that it was the cleaning guy singing as he worked it moved their hearts. They went in to where he was scrubbing and he stopped to look up at them. They asked him why he was so happy doing such an undesirable job. He said “Jesus did not like what he had to do either but he did it for me. This is His house and it should be in the best condition we can present it. I don’t have much to offer God but this I can do and I do it willingly without complaint. I sing because I know I am in His will for me at the moment and there is not greater place to be. I am content.”

The point of this story is to that no matter what you do in the will of God, it will bring contentment. I did not say it will be easy, popular or exciting. I said it will bring contentment. God made us different to do different things. I know a man who would not get up in front of a group to do anything but he loves the outdoors. He keeps the church lot clean and trimmed. He is content. He rarely gets a pat on the back but he is blessed by God and that is all he needs. You might not be called to be on the drama team but you might love to sew. A drama group always needs costumes and props. If you love sound equipment or lighting there is a place for you in church productions and services. The elderly are in dire need of visits and little gifts. Health care workers and crafters are wonderful in this area. The homebound have ministry potential too. Sending letters and cards to shut-ins or military troops is a fantastic work and it does not require leaving home to do it.

You are unique in every way. It is up to you to first tell the Lord that you are willing to be in His will and then ask for direction, opportunity and ability, then WAIT!

The Lord loves answering those calls the most. He waits for you to submit your will over to His will. This is when He often times develops new gifts in you. When he knows He can trust you with the little things first, He makes big things happen! Do not be surprised if he takes you into a direction other than where you thought you might go. You do not see yourself through God’s eyes. You see your limitations, God sees your limitless potential!

On January 19th, I celebrated my 5th birthday! No, not my biological birthday (I’m 53), but my God-given-second-chance birthday! For those of you reading this that have been at the door of death and God miraculously moved and caused that door to stay sealed, then you know what I mean!On January 19, 2003, a beautiful, sunny winter day here in the south, I was in church; up delivering a speech in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Then out of nowhere I started to get a headache. I tried to finish the speech, but the headache got progressively worse and then my vision started to blur. At this time, I knew something was drastically wrong. So in the middle of my speaking, I turned to exit the sanctuary. The next thing I remember is people surrounding me asking if I was all right. Evidently, I had fainted as I tried to exit the sanctuary. My next clear memory was several hours later when I awoke in the intensive care section of the hospital.
In the space of less than 5 minutes my whole world had changed. I had gone from feeling terrific to laying in a hospital bed many miles from home and listening to my doctor give my dismal prognosis.

It turns out that I had something called an arteriovenous malformation (AVM/similar to an aneurysm) in the brain. Never in my life had I even heard of an AVM! It is a malformation of a vein and my doctor said I had probably had it since birth. Anyway, mine was sitting almost directly on top of my spinal cord. My doctor only gave me a 20% chance of surviving the surgery. In fact, at first he was not going to even attempt the surgery. But thank God, the Lord directed him to change his mind and try the surgery.

So as I laid there thinking about how quite possibly this could be the end of my earthly life, I started to put “my affairs” in order.

As they took me into the operating room that Tuesday morning, I remember reciting the 23rd Psalm over and over.

My next remembrance was of the nurse asking me my name and stuff like that. That’s when it dawned on me that I was alive! That God had given me a second chance at life!!!!!

For the next 6 months, my recuperation was up and down. After spending an initial 2 weeks in the hospital, I was in and out of the hospital 3 more times. I went from a size 18 to a size 10 because I had absolutely no appetite. Spent a week on the psychiatric wing of the hospital because the doctors couldn’t find a physical reason for my loss of appetite.

But through it all, God has been SO good to me! I could go on and on and on about all the things God has brought me through during these past 5 years! My doctor even calls me his “miracle patient”. And some of the other doctors I see now, are like stunned and unbelieving (even though it is in black and white in my medical report) that I am sitting in front of them! But that just shows what Dr. Jesus can do!!!!!!

So this is the reason I mime! During my first months of recuperation, I asked God for a special way to reach out and minister to others as a way of thanking HIm for sparing my life. Miming was something I never really thought much of before and so it was a complete surprise when this answer came. Of course, being human, I questioned, because I just couldn’t see me getting up before people doing something like miming. But the same answer persisted and I knew that is what I had to do.

My first mime was to the song “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” which has become my testimony song.

So again, why do I mime? I truly believe that this is a ministry God has given me—–a way of reaching out to people for Him and a way of thanking Him for my many, many blessings!

That is my prayer each time I mime that God will get the glory and that He will work through me to touch someone’s life.

This “gift” of miming has also brought people into my life that I probably wouldn’t have ever met. On in particular is my sister in mime, Gena Wells. She has been so supportive and inspirational during the time I have known her. I know by placing her in my life that is another conformation that this is what God has for me to do.

So one more time, why do I mime? The answer was and always will be: To give God the praise and glory and to let Him work through me to touch someone’s life!

To God be the glory!!
